{Adding a Little at a Time}

Adding to my food storage is one of my goals for this year. I know it's going to take awhile doing it a bit at a time, but I'm making an effort and that makes me feel better. My parents gave us food storage for Christmas and then apologized because it wasn't "fun", but I was super happy to get it! Along with some other things we got flour and sugar. My sister-in-law, Julia called a few weeks ago and said she had the portable caner at her house and wondered if I wanted to can anything. All the girls, except my mom, got together and put our flour and sugar in cans, along with some other things, like beans and rice. It was fun to hang out with Lisa, Julia and Katy while the kids played.I also decided to add a few more things when I went grocery shopping this last week. I figure even if I just add 3 or 4 things a week, depending on the sales, pretty soon it will add up. I know I have a long way to go, but we'll get there a bit at a time....right!

Way to Go Monica!! That is so awesome!!! I want to rent a canner one day too and have a canning party myself, hmmmm, that isn't a bad idea. You are well on your way to food storage success. It is about consistently building it and you will have your own grocery store soon!! I am so proud of you, I could cry! -Suzanne

Yay!
I'm so proud of you and your Food Storage! It looks really, really good!! We have a canner in our ward building also, and one that my neighbor bought for some reason so I may just have to host a canning party myself! Ha-Ha!

Monica, you rock! Can you send some of that food storage boost my way??? I keep telling myself, I need to and do like you have done. Buying a little at atime but, alas...I never do.

Love the shiny cans!
Keep building, **happy snaps**

Way to go! You're doing great on your food storage, YAY! :D

One frustrating problem I've had with canned flour: it tastes AWFUL and has to be thrown away by the time it reaches the expiration date. Yep, we learned that the hard way. Flour is a really good item to use and rotate regularly so that it doesn't get wasted like ours did! :)

You know what? My mother-in-law always buys us practical stuff like food storage items and 72 hour kits. And while it isn't personal or nostalgic, I truly appreciate that she cares that we have food on the table! I love getting practical items - especially when I really need them. Cheers to food storage!

Way to go Monica!!! There is nothing like the secure feeling of being prepared. Our family is to the point that we only buy food when it is on sale. The rest of the time we go to "Our little home store" Not only are you prepared, but is saves a ton of money!

Dito on the flour!!! I don't store canned flour anymore, I buy several bags at a time and use them up. If the need ever arises we will grind our own.
